• Empire State Observatory and New York Sky Ride… Located on the 86th floor, 1,050 feet above the city’s bustling streets, the Empire State Observatory offers panoramic views from the surrounding open-air promenade.
• United Nations… In 1945, Representatives of 50 countries met in San Francisco at the United Nations Conference on International Organization to draw up the United Nation Charter. The Organization officially came into existence on 24 October 1945. United Nations Day is celebrated on October 24.
• The Intrepid…Destined to be scrapped, a campaign led by the Intrepid Museum Foundation saved the carrier and established it as a floating museum which opened in New York City in August 1982. In 1986, Intrepid was officially designated as a National Historic Landmark.
• Ellis Island… If you ponder nothing else at Ellis Island, remember the line from the Emma Goldman poem the reads, “Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” Ellis Island is where those masses huddled – in all, more than 12 million people from 1892 to 1954.
• IMAX Film… The Loews IMAX Theatre at Lincoln Square boasts one of the largest IMAX screens in the world – 75 feet high by 97 feet wide.
• Museum of Natural History… One of the largest and most innovative natural history museums. Includes famous dinosaur halls, Akeley Hall of African Mammals, Gottesman Hall of Planet Earth, and the new Rose Center featuring the most technologically advanced Space Show in the world.
• Rose Center… The American Museum of Natural History’s Rose Center for Earth and Space has its grand opening in February 2000, and this world class science center features, among a variety of very cool, high-tech exhibits, the new Hayden Planetarium.
• Wednesday Matinee Theatre or Evening Theatre… Endless Choices in the “Big Apple”.
• Nature Walk through Central Park…What makes New York such a great place to live. The huge park, 843 acres large, is located in the center of Manhattan. The park hosts several lakes, theaters, ice rinks, fountains, tennis courts, baseball fields, many playgrounds and other facilities. It is also home to the Central Park zoo and Metropolitan museum of Art.
